The Washington Socialist is Metro DC DSA’s monthly email newsletter. It can also be read online at The Washington Socialist blog on Metro DC DSA's website. As an e-newsletter, it is free and available to all who request it, members or not.
Like many newsletters, it has a variety of functions and features. Since 2012, when it first began monthly appearances, the Washington Socialist has included a calendar of DSA events for the month to come, plus events we co-sponsor or find notably interesting to persons on the left in the DCDSA region, which includes suburban Maryland and Northern Virginia as well as the District of Columbia.
In addition the newsletter includes some long(ish), thoughtful pieces on politics, society and culture locally, nationally and globally; shorter pieces on upcoming events of special note or DSA events of the previous month; concise discussions of immediate political and social concerns in our region as well as elsewhere, and reviews of books, movies and drama, public art and/or culture and other experiences we have, or can have, in common. The “Good Reads” section aggregates links to interesting articles on the left and readers are encouraged to send them to the production manager, below.
In fact, the range covered (ideally) by writers for the Washington Socialist is designed not only to interest many readers on the political and cultural left but to invite maximum participation from the readership through their own submissions.
If you like some things you read in the Washington Socialist (or vehemently disagree with some) it’s probably a signal that you should be contributing as well. Everyone has special knowledge and interests; bring yours to our newsletter. The publication is sent, generally, on the first of each month and submission deadline is generally 10 days before that date. Submit to email@example.com or to the production manager at firstname.lastname@example.org.
